Canfield Named Tree City

posted May 2, 2017, 7:35 AM by Patty Bernat

Canfield was named a 2016 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management.  This is the 36th consecutive year Canfield has received this honor.  Canfield is one of more than 3,400 Tree City USA's.

Canfield achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the programs's four requirements:  A tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

This year the Arbor Day observance was held at C.H. Campbell Elementary School on April 28th.  The children celebrated by reading a poem and the Mayor read a Proclamation.  A Red Oak Tree was planted at the school in observance of Arbor Day.
